| Shia LaBeouf arriving at the Late Show with David Letterman. |
[ | | Tue, 13 May 2008 | 11:00 am | | ] |

Shia LaBeouf arrives at the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York City before the Late Show with David Letterman.
In an interview with Variety, Shia talked about meeting the veteran actor Harrison Ford for the first time. “The first time I met Harrison we were on an Air Force base doing stunt and vehicle training. He arrived in a big chopper and everyone stopped what they were doing. He got out of the helicopter, pulled a whip out of the glove box and proceeded to pull a sword out of a man’s hand using the whip. He then introduced himself to everyone.” And this is the same tough guy who is putty in the hands of the slight, trim, girlish Calista Flockhart. He’s also the kind of guy who makes his own phone calls and doesn’t put you on hold.
Shia will also be starring in the movie New York, I Love You, which will be released later this year, and will be in Transformers 2 where he will reprise his role as Sam Witwicky.

| High pollen counts ... arrghh!!! |
[ | | Tue, 13 May 2008 | 11:00 am | | ] |
Okay, who else realized that the pollen counts are really high today?
I had a hard time trying to find local NYC pollen counts ratings and types so if anyone else has more accurate websites or sources, please share.
Meanwhile for those who are wondering how bad the pollen counts are predicted for these four days, meaning today, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday: High, High, High and VERY HIGH. http://www.weather.com/outlook/health/allergies/weather/10001?from=36hr_outlet_allergies (Also yesterday, Monday, pollen count was: High)
From a different website with a little bit of a breakdown (closest region it indicates is actually for Newark, NJ): http://weather.weatherbug.com/NY/New%20York-weather/pollen-count.html?zcode=z6169&zip=10001 It is "High" and indicates it is for tree pollen, specifically: oak, birch, and maple. (Also on a numerical rating to 12, our pollen count is rated 9.8.) For some reason I like this site's use of bar chart and colors for different levels: Low = Green (Low = Green) Low-Medium = Yellow (Low-Medium = Yellow) Medium = Orange (Medium = Orange) Medium High = Red (Medium High = Red) High = Purple (High = Purple)
( For your edification, my own current symptoms )

Cynthia Nixon talks about marrying her girlfriend

Cynthia Nixon’s romance with her girlfriend of four years caught a lot of people by surprise. And it’s no wonder – Nixon had been with her boyfriend for fifteen years, had two kids with him, and had never before been with a woman. But when you fall in love, you fall in love. Nixon says that while she never had any desire to marry her boyfriend, she’d marry girlfriend Christine Marinoni if she could do so legally.
“If it becomes legal, I think we would,” Cynthia tells The Mirror. “It’s something my girlfriend is interested in and it was not something my boyfriend ever was. I think that to get married to her would be a little act of rebellion. It’s like if you’ve never had the vote and then you get it you’re going to run out there and vote.” Always “very wary” of marriage, the 42-year-old admits she consciously avoided exchanging vows with Danny Mozes, her boyfriend of 15 years and father of her children, Samantha, 11, and Charles, 5, because “I felt like it was potentially a trap. People sometimes want the party, the gifts and the public celebration of this big love - they’re excited about that rather than about the lifetime commitment,” Cynthia says. “So I always steered clear of it.” She continues, “I had been with men all my life and I had never met a woman I had fallen in love with before. But when I did, it didn’t seem so strange. “I don’t define myself. I’m just a woman in love with another woman.” [From OK! Magazine] Cynthia also said she never felt the need to come out of the closet, because she never felt that she was in a closet. The way she says it is a little unclear in terms of her orientation, but the way she speaks openly about love is really beautiful. She notes, “I met this woman and I fell in love with her. In terms of my sexual orientation, I don’t really feel that I changed. I don’t feel any different than I did before.” It is interesting that she says she’d probably want to marry, but phrases it, “It’s something my girlfriend is interested in…” instead of saying it’s something both she and Christine are interested in. The phrasing makes it sound more like it’s something her girlfriend wants to do, and Nixon’s okay with going along with it. But obviously if she’s talking so publicly about it, one would assume she’s pretty into the idea.

| Lindsay Lohan at Party for Fornarina |
[ | | Tue, 13 May 2008 | 7:50 am | | ] |
It was all eyes on Lindsay Lohan in Paris, France last night as she hosted a party for Fornarina.
Miss Lohan looked fresh faced and happy despite reports of a recent blow out fight with reported girlfriend, Samantha Ronson where she was “crying her eyes out.”
Lindsay, who has been accused of stealing clothes lately, just recorded a song in which the lyrics go: “You got a problem with it? If I want it, I get it now.”
True dat!

| Can someone do me a huge favour and not ever give Jennifer Tilly a microphone |
[ | | Tue, 13 May 2008 | 3:33 pm | | ] |
|
"Tinkerbell on Cough Syrup" doesn't have the same ring to it as "Oops I went to the Oscars mashed on psychedelics and thought I was Cinderella, lol sorry guys".
Scarlett Johansson is the latest Hollywood star to swap the film set for the recording studio, with an album out in the UK on Monday. Can actors make a successful transition to the music world - or should they hang up their microphones for good?
The first time most people heard Johansson stretch her vocal cords was in her Bafta-winning performance in Lost in Translation, singing karaoke to The Pretenders song Brass in Pocket. Her vocals led to a track on the album Unexpected Dreams: Songs from the Stars, which featured tunes performed by an array of film and TV actors.
So impressed were Warner Bros that they approached the 23-year-old to record her own album - and Anywhere I Lay My Head, a compilation of Tom Waits covers, is the result. Even David Bowie has added his talents as a backing singer on two tracks.
But actors appear to have a harder time making it in the music industry than singers who try to break into Hollywood.
Will Smith, Barbra Streisand and Cher - who all started out as singers - have earned Oscar nominations or wins for their acting abilities. But musical efforts by movie stars like Bruce Willis, Russell Crowe, Keanu Reeves and Minnie Driver have not troubled the charts much - although Willis did have hits with Respect Yourself and Under the Boardwalk in 1987.
"In general, the history of actors who make albums is shocking," says Gareth Grundy, deputy editor of Q magazine. "You really don't want to hear the record Jamie Foxx made recently, and especially not any of those made by Bruce Willis."

EDIT: Speaking of David Bowie, has anyone else seen "Buddha of Suburbia"? Its an awesome film he did the soundtrack for, which has a cover he did of "Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick" and I cannot find a copy anywhere :(

Hello!
I was recently thinking about planting a small garden on my fire escape in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. After googling it a bit, I found that it isn't that uncommon but IS actually against fire safety codes and my landlord can get fined. Does that go with any size of a garden or only ones that obstruct use of the escape? Also, I live on the top floor of a 3-story-railroad style home, and my fire escape faces the back yard, so the chance of my little garden being uncovered is lessened, but I still don't want to make my landlord get in trouble unnecessarily.
I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this, along with hints/suggestions. I unfortunately have failed at planting things on my windowsills due to having two cats that love to eat and torture my plants.
Thanks in advance!

| The Hills Bash |
[ | | Tue, 13 May 2008 | 7:06 am | | ] |
London may have been putting on their finest for the big Sex and the City world premiere, but L.A. was all about the The Hills last night as castmembers gathered to celebrate the hit MTV’s reality show’s season finale.
The network pulled out all the stops for the evening’s season ender, beginning with a live pre-show. Decked out in their best party dresses, Lauren Conrad, Lauren Bosworth, Stephanie Pratt, Whitney Port and Audrina Patridge mingled with fans at a Beverly Hills mansion during the Live from The Hills Season Finale Pre-Show hosted by MTV VJ, Lyndsey Rodrigues. The event showcased the final three episodes of the season, as well as a live performance by Usher, who performed his smash hit, Love in this Club.
Conspicuously missing from the night’s festivities? Resident villains Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag.

| FIRST LOOK: Jessica Alba Poses as Charlie Chaplin |
[ | | Tue, 13 May 2008 | 6:48 am | | ] |
Gearing up for her latest movie, the Mike Myers comedy The Love Guru, Jessica Alba takes on the guise of screen comedy's first iconic figure, Charlie Chaplin – all for the June issue of Allure.
In the course of the accompanying interview, the pregnant Alba, 27, opens up about her sexy public image and how she finally learned to feel comfortable with her body.
Some highlights from the interview:
On Her Steamy Public Image: "[Hollywood] always play[s] up your sexuality, because that's what gets men into the theaters. And I never really gave a s--- about all that stuff! It's nothing to be ashamed of. But it is definitely not what I am about by any means!"
On Owning Her Sexuality: "I don't think I was comfortable with my sexuality until I was an adult, probably, like, 22 – that's when I stopped apologizing and stopped feeling ashamed. I did the Vagina Monologues in L.A. That made me proud."
On Sex Before Marriage: "I never believed women had to be virgins when they got married, or that a woman has to fall in love with a guy just because they're having sex. I don't think sex is a big deal. I hated the hypocrisy of it. Men can do whatever, and it's acceptable."

| Country Star John Michael Montgomery in Rehab |
[ | | Tue, 13 May 2008 | 6:44 am | | ] |

Country singer John Michael Montgomery has checked himself into rehab for substance abuse, according to his Web site.
The "I Swear" singer, who had a string of No. 1 hits in the '90s, says his abuse troubles are due to "severe anxiety attacks and sleep disorder."
Of his rehab decision, Montgomery wrote: "I will be disappearing for a while to try and defeat the demons that have stripped me of my energy of life and good health for so many years now ... However long it may take, I'm gonna fight to the end and come out stronger."
